On June 12th, 1992, the National Holiday (Independence Day) of the Russia Federation has been celebrated annually.
Today, June 12th, 2017 marks Russia 25years of independent. On December 25th, 1991, the country new name; the Russia Federation was adopted and in 1992, the supreme soviet of Russia proclaimed June as a National Holiday by PRESIDENTIAL DECREE. Under a subsequent presidential decree on June 16, 1998, the Holiday was officially named “RUSSIA DAY”.
On this day people may attend concerts and fireworks that take place in the cities. Some prominent Russian writers, scientist and humanitarian workers receive state awards from the President of Russia and also most public offices and school are closed on this day. If the day falls on a weekend, the public Holiday will be move to the following Monday.
Russia Day is celebrated with flag hoisting, parades, fireworks, awards ceremonies, singing patriotic songs and the National Anthem, speeches by the president, entertainment and cultural programs.
